* In "China and futures: A firsthand report," we covered how China, which was fast becoming a major importer of U.S. farm goods, was honing its futures trading skills. We reported the Chinese were sophisticated in their comprehension of the theory and practice of commodity trading. At the time, wheat, cotton and corn accounted for more than 60% of all 1978 U.S. exports to China.

* "Federal Reserve: The heavy in interest rate moves, " discussed how government monetary policy, as dictated by the Fed, was going to continue to play a dominant role in interest rate moves.

* "Avoiding 'avoidable' risk through portfolio theory," showed how to diversify your portfolio to reduce risk with more than just random selection. We went into specifics regarding profit/loss correlation and formulas for growth.

* In response to growing interest in managed commodity accounts, we began a regular feature on commodity funds and managed accounts in this issue called Funds Review, now called Managed Money Review.
