You make some excellent points. I would go even a little further in creating a set of guidelines and questions; adding to the four questions a business must ask to also address how the archived emails are going to be retrieved. Will the end-user need assistance from IT to get an old email? If so, it's going to be cumbersome. The business may also wish to ask from where will users be making their requests for archived emails? Road warriors and teleworkers need access too, and the ability for end-users to access and search archives themselves, from any location, may be critically important.

I think if you use once, you will not want to leave this. It is very user friendly and the fun to show to others. Blackberry had the days. Steve also gives this now at a very reasonable price now at about usd250 instead of 700.

iPhone: Love it or Hate it, at Least it is a Step Forward
Hi Peter,
I couldn't help but get excited when I read this blog post. You see, we recently launched a new individual pay-per-use fax to email service that addresses everything you blogged about above.

If you have 2 minutes, here's a flash demo on how it works.

Basically, MongoSCAN allows you to scan documents from your standard fax machine and the documents arrive to your recipients inbox appearing as an email from you with a PDF attachment of your documents. You (the sender) would receive a confirmation copy of the transaction, as well as the documents, in your email inbox. The best part is that neither the sender or the recipient needs an account or any special equipment in order to send or receive the documents, it is simply a Pay-Per-Use service and the cost is .25 cents per page.

It accomplishes the same thing that you were already doing (scanning, saving to PDF, then emailing) but this process eliminates the multiple steps you spoke of. All you would have to do is replace your standard fax cover sheet with our "Email Cover Page" that you create at www.MongoSCAN.com and then our automated systems do the rest.

We are based in San Francisco, are backed by the co-Founders of Adobe, and have been offering our patented enterprise solution, MongoFAX, for eight years. MongoSCAN was developed due to high demand from consumers who expressed many of the same frustrations you did above.

I really hope you have the chance to try MongoSCAN and I would certainly welcome any feedback you (or anyone else) may have!

Feel free to contact me with any questions or for more information. Thank you for letting me post my comments.

Respectfully,

Fax Isn’t Dead Yet
Very informative. With continued innovation in technology, there is an increasing opportunity to recycle computers and limit the number ending up in local landfills.

Very usedful and informative info. I'd add that many web sites are deploying trust certifications like Trust Guard and Hacker Safe. Our company is looking at this presently as a way of making our web site more shopper and security friendly.

What about Wi-Max. The 700 Mega Hertz spectrum was recently sold by the FCC. Will providers open this up for computers so I can avoid cutting a hole in my window and screen? I hate it when insects get into my house.
