Dictionary of Computer and Internet Terms: toner cartridge
toner cartridge
replaceable assembly in a laser printer that contains the toner (a powdery ink) that will be used to make marks on the paper. Most toner cartridges also contain other parts that are likely to wear out (e.g., the electrophotographic drum), and replacing the cartridge replaces quite a bit of the inner workings of the laser printer. (This contributes to the cost of the toner cartridge.) Some types of toner cartridges are recyclable and refillable; however, the quality of refilled cartridges is not always equal to that of new ones.
